JACKSON, Tenn. | Women's Basketball captured its first Gulf South Conference regular season championship Saturday afternoon with a 78–76 victory over the Union Bulldogs.
The title marks the first GSC regular season championship in program history for UAH. The Chargers' only previous conference title came in 2013 when they won the GSC Tournament.
UAH was led by standout performances from Ivey Maddox and Lili Wilken. Maddox finished with a game-high 26 points and six rebounds, shooting 9-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Wilken added 23 points and eight rebounds to help power the Chargers to the milestone victory.
Bella White contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, while Paris Opelt narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
With the win, UAH improves to 23-4 overall and 18-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Chargers also secured home-court advantage throughout the GSC Tournament, scheduled for March 2–8. UAH finishes the regular season with a 10-1 road record.
The 23 victories match the second-highest single-season total in program history, tying the mark set by the 2011–12 Chargers, who finished 23-7.
UAH will return home to SportsMED Arena inside Spragins Hall to close out the regular season with a three-game homestand, beginning Thursday, Feb. 19, against Auburn Montgomery.
