TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Baseball picked up its first road victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Tuskegee 11-2 in non-conference action.
The Chargers used a five-run third inning to take control of the contest, highlighted by a three-run home run from Gavin Galenza that helped spark the UAH offense. Galenza finished the day with a team-high four RBIs and scored twice as the Chargers pulled away for the nine-run win.
UAH produced a balanced offensive effort with seven different players recording hits. Seth Staggs and Broddee Bartlett each drove in two runs to support the Chargers' 11-run performance.
The Chargers also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks in the contest. Braxton Griffin led the way with three walks, while CJ Carson added two and Gunnar Waldrop contributed one.
On the mound, Brayden Lawrence delivered a standout performance in his first start of the season. The right-hander worked six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five batters to earn the win.
Tuskegee scored its only runs late, but the Chargers' early offense and strong pitching proved to be the difference.
UAH will continue its five-game road trip this weekend with a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Valdosta State. The series begins Friday at 5 p.m. CT, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT. All games will be available for viewing on FloSports.
