Lapinskes’ Ninth-Inning Grand Slam Powers Baseball to Doubleheader Split

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Baseball split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader with Valdosta State on Saturday, rallying for a 10-8 victory in Game 1 before falling 6-5 in extra innings in the nightcap.

Game 1 – UAH 10, Valdosta State 8

UAH staged a dramatic ninth-inning comeback to claim the opener, scoring seven runs in the final frame to erase an 8-3 deficit and secure the 10-8 victory.

Starter Cole Loftis delivered a steady outing, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing four earned runs on limited traffic. The right-hander struck out five and walked just one.

The Chargers struck first in the opening inning when Taylor Bush drove in CJ Carson with an RBI hit. Caleb Mahan added to the lead in the second inning with a two-run double that scored Jayce Upton and Braxton Griffin to give UAH a 3-0 advantage.

Trailing by five entering the ninth, UAH mounted its comeback beginning with an RBI hit by Gavin Galenza that scored Carson. Bush later drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-5 and keep the inning alive.

With the bases still loaded, Sean Lapinskes delivered the decisive swing, launching a go-ahead grand slam to put the Chargers in front 9-8. UAH added an insurance run on a Valdosta State error to cap the seven-run rally.

Parker White earned his first win of the season after benefiting from the Chargers' late offensive surge.
