HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Baseball saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Friday afternoon, falling to Delta State 9-0 in the opening game of a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Charger Park.

The Chargers utilized a bullpen approach, with Jake Cardin making the start. Cardin held the Statesmen scoreless through the first two innings before Delta State broke through in the third with a three-run home run to take control of the game.

The Statesmen continued to build their lead, scoring in four consecutive innings to extend the advantage to eight runs before ultimately securing the 9-0 victory.

UAH used seven pitchers in the contest, with Jace Gray turning in a strong outing in his second appearance of the season. Gray pitched 1.1 innings, striking out three batters.

Offensively, the Chargers were unable to generate momentum against the Delta State pitching staff.

With the loss, UAH falls to 13-16 overall and 9-10 in Gulf South Conference play.

The Chargers will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon, as the series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Charger Park. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1.
