Staggs Earns GSC Freshman of the Week After Dominant Weekend

4/14/2026 11:00:00 AM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman Seth Staggs has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Staggs becomes the first Charger freshman to earn the honor this season and the first since Sean Lapinskes received the award on February 18, 2025. Over the past five years, only a handful of Chargers have earned the distinction, including Carson Villalta (2021), Jackson Lindsey (2022), Will Noles (2022), and Lapinskes last season.

The recognition comes after a dominant weekend at the plate, helping lead UAH to a 2-of-3 road series victory at Mississippi College.

Staggs was nearly unstoppable offensively, going 8-for-10 across the three games with four doubles, five runs scored, one RBI, and a walk. In the second game of the series, he delivered a perfect 4-for-4 performance, recording two doubles, an RBI, and reaching base via hit-by-pitch.

With hits in all three games over the weekend, Staggs has now extended his hitting streak to 23 consecutive games, one of the longest active streaks in the conference.

On the season, Staggs is batting .319, the second-highest average in the GSC, while also ranking third in doubles (13) and fifth in OPS (1.101). He has also scored 41 runs, which ranks eighth in the conference.

UAH will now turn its attention to its final home series of the season, as the Chargers host Trevecca Nazarene for a three-game GSC set beginning Friday, April 17. Games one and two will be played as part of a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., with the series finale and Senior Day festivities scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at Charger Park.
