HUNTSVILLE, ALA. | The UAH men's lacrosse team returned home to Charger Park on Tuesday afternoon and delivered a dominant 23-5 victory over Virginia State in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Earlier in the day, Aydan Weiszhar and Will Bond were named to the Peach Belt Conference Second Team All-Conference, as announced by the conference.
UAH wasted little time settling in after conceding the game's opening goal, responding with a dominant stretch to close the first quarter ahead 7-1. The Chargers carried that momentum into the second period, continuing to control possession and capitalize on scoring opportunities to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.
The Chargers remained in control throughout the second half, outscoring Virginia State 5-2 in the third quarter. UAH's defense held the Trojans scoreless in the fourth while the offense added five more goals to secure the 23-5 final.
UAH had 15 different players find the back of the net. Nate Burt, Carson Kingsbury, and Zach Hulbert each led the way with three goals apiece, while Makai Hillmon and Harrison Skinner added two goals each. Griffin Utz, Brock Deist, Sam Coffee, Lucas Nobles, Aydan Weiszhar, Chris Aiello, Jake Hughes, Carter Henninger, Jack Fehsal, and Emerson Herbig also contributed goals in the scoring effort.
The Chargers controlled nearly every statistic, outshooting Virginia State 69-17, including a 43-10 edge in shots on goal. UAH also dominated ground balls (57-31) and faceoffs (27-2), allowing them to maintain possession for much of the contest. Additionally, UAH was efficient in clearing, finishing 21-of-22 on the day.
UAH used four goalkeepers in the win, combining for five saves. Tommy Peer, Jake Sander, Thomas Dugan, and Tyler Trefzger all saw action, with Trefzger not allowing a goal in his time in net.
The Chargers will look to carry their momentum into the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a road matchup against top-seeded Montevallo on Friday, April 24, at 4 p.m. in Montevallo, Ala.
