BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | After a standout weekend at the plate against Christian Brothers, Alexa Douthitt has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
A native of Madison, Ala., Douthitt appeared in all three games of the series, starting each contest and finishing the weekend 8-for-12 (.667) with six runs scored and nine RBIs. She added two home runs and a double while helping lead her team to a 2-1 series record on the road.
Douthitt has been one of the most consistent offensive performers in the Gulf South Conference this season, currently ranking among the league leaders in multiple categories, including top 10 in batting average (.393), second in hits (70), and second in RBIs (53).
Douthitt opened the series on April 30 in game one, going 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored in a win over Christian Brothers. She followed that performance with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in game two, scoring four runs and driving in six RBIs while adding a home run to fuel a high-powered offensive attack. Douthitt closed the series on May 1 going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and one run scored.
Douthitt and the Chargers return to action at the Gulf South Conference Softball Championship, facing No. 3 seed Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in Oxford, Ala.
