MONTGOMERY – Kaitlyn Lewis scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 Gulf South Conference victory over AUM on Saturday at the AUM Soccer Complex.
Lewis broke a scoreless tie at the 77:09 mark, finishing one of her team-high four shots to give the Chargers the lead. UAH (4-5, 2-3 GSC) controlled the attacking numbers throughout the match, outshooting AUM (3-5-2, 1-4 GSC) 20-12 and holding a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
CeCe Szopa made three saves in goal to secure the shutout and increase her UAH career record to 12 clean sheets. Szopa played all 90 minutes in goal for the Chargers.
The victory snapped UAH's three-match losing streak and extended its unbeaten run against AUM to five consecutive meetings, with the Chargers posting a 2-0-3 record during that stretch.
UAH returns home next Saturday to continue GSC play against Spring Hill. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
