DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer program wrapped up its Florida road swing Saturday with a 2-0 setback against unbeaten Embry-Riddle at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The Chargers moved to 2-2 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 4-0-1.
The two sides played to a scoreless opening half despite Embry-Riddle holding a 6-2 advantage in shots. UAH goalkeeper Kacey Powell kept the Eagles off the board with three first-half saves, including a pair in quick succession in the 20th and 21st minutes and another in the 36th.
Embry-Riddle broke through in the 67th minute when Lauryn Mateo scored to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. The hosts added an insurance goal in the 79th minute.
Powell finished with a season-high nine saves across 90 minutes as Embry-Riddle put 11 of its 17 shots on goal. Carley White paced the UAH attack with three of the Chargers' four shots, including two attempts over the final eight minutes.
UAH continues its road trip on Sept. 11, traveling to Livingston, Alabama, to open Gulf South Conference play against West Alabama at 5 p.m.
