Late Score Sinks Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – With a goal from Khadijah Jannah in the 87th minute, the UAH women's soccer team knocked off host Delta State by a 1-0 score on Friday afternoon. The win moves the Lady Chargers to 4-7-2 (2-1-1 Gulf South Conference) on the year, while DSU falls to 3-9-0 (0-5-0).

With overtime looming over the contest, Jannah riffled the last of her five shots on goal past the DSU keeper to give her side the edge. With the unassisted strike, the Atlanta, Ga., native now has a team-best six goals and 13 points on the season.

Iris Gunnarsdotir was again solid in goal for the Blue and White as she posted her first shutout of the season. She recorded six saves to give her 76 for the year – 24 away from the school record of 100.

The Lady Chargers were able to shoot at will against the opponent, outshooting the Lady Statesmen by a 17-9 margin including an 8-6 advantage in shots that reached the target.

Corner kicks were even in the game with both sides recording five, and the game was a relatively clean affair as just seven fouls were called.

Continuing play in the GSC away from home, the Lady Chargers will return to action on Sunday when they take on Christian Brothers at noon.
