Chargers Set To Face No. 13 Western Michigan

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Hitting the road for the first time in the 2011-12 season, the UAH hockey team will head to No. 13 Western Michigan for a two-game set on Friday and Saturday. Opening faceoff for both games is slated for 6 p.m. CDT.

The Chargers enter the weekend with an 0-2-0 mark after dropping a pair of competitive, one-goal contests to Lake Superior State in the home-opening series last week.

Two Chargers lead UAH in scoring early on as Justin Cseter notched a goal and an assist last weekend, while freshman Ben Reinhardt notched a couple of helpers in his collegiate debut.

Also strong in their first college games were Graeme Strukoff, Kyle Lysaght, and Craig Pierce. Pierce notched his first career goal, while Strukoff and Lysaght added an assist each. Lysaght also held nothing back in Sunday's 2-1 loss as he fired a team-high seven shots on goal.

Splitting the weekend in between the pipes, both Clarke Saunders and John Griggs were strong in goal for the Chargers. Especially impressive, Griggs stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced while allowing just two goals in Sunday's game.

If the Blue and White is to upset the nationally-ranked Broncos, it will have to capitalize on what have been strong first periods and carry that momentum into the rest of the game. The Chargers were outshot 38-22 in the final two frames in the series a week ago.

WMU opens the season with the No. 13 ranking, and it was picked fourth in the CCHA by the media and coaches. The team lost its leading scorer but does return the next nine from the scoring ledger a season ago. Defensively, WMU's top pair features the leaders in plus/minus from last season as Luke Witkowski as a +13 and Dan DeKeyser was a +12.

Live stats for the contests will be available at wmubroncos.com, and fans are encouraged to follow the Chargers on Twitter (@uahchargers).
