PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UAH hockey team received yet another terrific performance in goal Friday night, but it unfortunately could not notch a goal for the third straight contest as it lost 3-0 at Providence. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-10-1 on the season while the hosts improve to 5-3-1.
Putting together his second consecutive 40-save performance, sophomore goalie
Clarke Saunders stopped 45 of the 48 shots he faced to keep UAH in the contest. He only allowed one even-strength goal on the night as the Friars registered their first and third tallies on the power play.
Kevin Hart placed his team on top in the first period when he scored the contest's first goal at the 14:44 mark of the period, and the home team struck quickly into the second period to put the game firmly in its favor as Drew Brown scored just 1:45 into the middle frame.
With Saunders turning away shot after shot, the score remained 2-0 until late in the third when Tim Schaller was able to notch his sixth goal of the season with the Friars on the man-advantage.
On the night, Providence was 2-for-4 on the power play, while UAH could not convert on any of its five opportunities. The Friars held the strong 48-21 advantage in shots while also dominating in the circle as they won 53 faceoffs compared to just 29 faceoff wins for the Blue and White.
Though the Chargers were outshot, it was not for a lack of effort from sophomore
Nickolas Gatt who fired off seven shots to match
Kyle Lysaght for the most shots in a game this season by a UAH player. Lysaght has performed the feat twice.
The two teams will square off again Saturday night at 6 p.m. CST.
