PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite scoring a pair of goals on the power play, the UAH hockey team fell at Providence by a 4-2 score on Friday night. The setback drops the Chargers to 0-11-1 on the season, and the Friars improve to 6-3-1.
Freshman
Kyle Lysaght recorded the first multi-point night of the season for the Chargers as he scored a goal and picked up an assist on the other.
The Chargers fell behind quickly in the contest as Steven Shamanski put one past
Clarke Saunders just 1:43 into the game, and a power-play marker at the 13:00 mark of the second period from Tim Schaller put the Friars up 2-0.
It was after that when the Blue and White responded.
Setup by
Graeme Strukoff and
Curtis deBruyn, Lysaght scored a power-play goal at 17:49 of the middle frame to pull UAH to within one at 2-1, snapping what had been a scoreless streak of more than 215 minutes.
Unfortunately, Derek Army scored just 19 seconds later to put his team back on top by a pair, and Schaller scored his second of the season of the contest only 51 seconds into the third period to produce a 4-1 lead for the hosts.
With Lysaght and Lasse Uusivirta assisting,
Mac Roy moved the Chargers back within two as he scored on the man-advantage at 6:41 of the final period but that was as close as the visitors would come on this night.
The Chargers were outshot 35-18 on the evening as Saunders registered 31 saves.
UAH will be off next weekend before travelling to North Andover, Mass., to take on Merrimack on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
