HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH hockey team will hit the road for a three-game, Northeastern swing this holiday week as it will open the set with a pair of contests in Massachusetts before traveling to New Hampshire to round out the trip. The Chargers (0-11-1) will start things off with a stiff challenge as they take on newly-appointed No. 1 Merrimack (8-0-1) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CST.
Following the game with the nation's only remaining undefeated team, the Chargers will travel to UMass Lowell for a Friday matinee and then venture to New Hampshire on Saturday night. The puck drops Friday at 3 p.m. CST and at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Chargers last played on Nov. 12 when they lost to Providence 4-2.
In that contest, freshman
Kyle Lysaght notched a goal and an assist to move to the top of the UAH offensive ledger with five points on the strength of three goals and two assists, while
Mac Roy also tallied in the game to pull himself into a tie with Lysaght for the team lead in goals as both have three.
Continuing to turn in stellar performance after stellar performance,
Clarke Saunders starts the three-game set with a 3.30 goals against average and a save percentage of .915 which ranks him 31st in the country. On the season he has recorded 30 or more saves in six contests – including a 55-stop night – en route to totaling 353.
In the all-time series with Wednesday opponents, the Chargers are behind by a 3-10-1 mark. The two teams last met a season ago at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and Merrimack took the pair of games by scores of 5-4 and 7-0.
In the 5-4 decision, the Chargers roared out to a 3-0 start that was spurred by an early goal by
Sebastian Geoffrion. He added an assist later in the contest, and
Justin Cseter finished the contest with a pair of helpers.
With the River Hawks, the Blue and White trails by a 1-5 margin in the all-time series, and New Hampshire owns a 3-1 advantage with the Chargers as the teams last met in 1991.
