Chargers Fall 3-0 To UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Playing the second of its three-game Thanksgiving road trip, the UAH hockey team fell to host UMass Lowell by a 3-0 score on Friday afternoon. The setback drops the Chargers to 0-13-1 on the season while the River Hawks improve to 7-4.

Clarke Saunders faced 49 shots on the night and turned in another strong performance as he turned away 46. The 46 saves marks the fourth time this season that the sophomore has stopped at least 40 shots.

Despite being outshot 18-2 in the first period, the Chargers trailed by just one as Saunders surrendered just a power-play marker in the frame – a tally by Josh Holmstrom at 13:23.

Another power-play goal at 5:09 of the second period scored by Derek Arnold pushed the hosts lead out to 2-0, and the team's only even strength goal came at 9:50 of the middle frame as Scott Wilson put one past Saunders to produce the 3-0 final.

UAH was outshot 49-20 on the evening as Mac Roy led the way for the Blue and White with his four shots on goal, and the Chargers were 0-for-4 on the power play. The River Hawks converted on two of their six opportunities with the man-advantage.

The squad will now travel to take on New Hampshire on Saturday at 6 p.m.
