HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Returning to the postseason after missing out last season, the No. 4-seeded UAH women's soccer team is set to face No. 2-seed North Alabama in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla.
This season marks the sixth tournament appearance for the Lady Chargers who are looking for the program's first postseason win. UAH last reached the tournament in 2009 when it lost 4-0 to UNA.
The two teams played to a 2-1 win for the Lions in the regular season matchup at Charger Field in Huntsville.
Leading the squad into the tournament is First-Team All-GSC goalkeeper
Iris Gunnarsdottir who broke the school record for saves in a season on Sunday when she recorded four stops to move to 102 on the year.
Gunnarsdottir was one of three UAH players who landed on the all-GSC teams as forwards
Khadijah Jannah and
Cady Reisman earned Second-Team accolades to give the Lady Chargers their highest total of all-GSC players since the 2004 squad also placed three on the team.
Pacing the team with eight goals an assist for 17 points, Jannah helped guide the team into the postseason with a stretch of six goals in five GSC contests during the middle of the season. Reisman was second on the squad in points with 15 points, and she tallied a PK goal against UNA and scored the game-winner in a key triumph at West Alabama.
The Lions are led by two-time GSC Player of the Year Chloe Roberts who scored both of UNA's goals against the Lady Chargers in the earlier contest. She has scored 15 times and added 12 assists to notch an impressive 42 regular-season points.
UNA placed six on this year's all-conference list, including Jennifer Osmond who follows just behind Roberts with 14 goals while also chipping in seven assists to amass 35 points.
