Lady Chargers Ousted By UNA

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UAH women's soccer team produced a valiant effort but ultimately fell short on Friday as a 3-2 loss to North Alabama eliminated it from the 2011 Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament. The Lady Chargers end the season at 5-11-2 while UNA advances with a record of 16-3.

It was the Blue and White that grabbed the momentum first on this day.

Just minutes after Iris Gunnarsdottir stood tall and made a save on a penalty kick attempt by GSC Player of the Year Chloe Roberts, Shera Stansberry played a long ball ahead to Cady Reisman who took it towards the goal. The Memphis, Tenn., native then chipped it over the UNA keeper to put the Lady Chargers up 1-0 in the 35th minute.

Unfortunately the lead would not last.

Just four minutes later, UAH was issued a yellow card, and the Lions capitalized. Roberts took the free kick and then watched as Hollie Loud was able to poke it past Gunnarsdottir to send the match into the halftime break even at 1-1.

The Lions then wasted no time taking the lead out of the locker room as Jennifer Osmond scored just 16 seconds into the second stanza to put the top-seed of the tournament up 2-1. Then in the 53rd minute, Osmond scored again to put North Alabama up by a 3-1 score.

Not wanting to go down without a fight, the Lady Chargers would strike again in the 81st minute as Tye Springer fed it to Khadijah Jannah who buried it for her team-best ninth goal of the season to make it 3-2.

It would be the last of UAH's eight shots – two reached the target – as the Lions fired off another pair of shots in the waning moments of the game to finish the day with a 24-8 advantage in shots.

Twelve of UNA's attempts made it to Gunnarsdottir's goal, and the Reykjavik, Iceland, native turned away nine to end the year with 111.
