HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Despite yet another tremendous performance by goalie
Clarke Saunders, the UAH hockey team was defeated 2-0 by visiting Ohio State on Saturday night at the Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center. The Chargers drop to 0-9-1 on the season with the loss while OSU improves to 6-3-1.
Saunders recorded his fourth showing of the season in which he made more than 30 saves as he faced 44 shots Saturday night, and the sophomore netminder turned away 42 of the tries.
Unfortunately the Chargers were unable to produce anything offensively in front of Saunders, as the Buckeyes more than doubled the 20 shots on goal that UAH had.
Mac Roy was the most active player for UAH in the OSU end of the ice as he had 25 percent of the shots for his team, firing five at the Buckeye goalie.
Once again the Buckeyes struck early as Nick Oddo scored at 3:45 of the opening period to give Ohio State the only goal it would need on the night. Tanner Fritz scored an unassisted marker at 16:57 of the second to produce the 2-0 final.
UAH was 0-for-4 on the power play in the contest, but a positive thing for the Chargers to take away from the game was that they were not whistled for a penalty all night as they played disciplined hockey. The previous season low for penalties called on the team was four in a game against Western Michigan.
The Chargers will now hit the road for a five-game road trip that starts with a two-game set at Providence on Nov. 11 and 12.
