MANKATO, Minn. – The UAH hockey team dropped a 9-1 decision on Saturday night to Minnesota State. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-17-1 while MSU improves to 6-12-1.
Just as they did Friday night, the hosts scored early to grab a quick lead. Just 2:27 into the contest, JP Lafontaine and Josh Nelson setup Matt Leitner who put it past UAH's
Clarke Saunders to produce a 1-0 lead for the Mavericks.
On Friday, MSU scored at 2:30 of the first.
Unlike in the past meeting, however, it was the Mavericks who scored next as they struck under two minutes later at 4:04 as Zach Lehrke scored to make it a 2-0 game for Minnesota State, and the team went on to add another pair of goals in the period with Michael Dorr scoring short-handed at 15:07 and JP Burkemper struck at 19:49.
The Mavericks put another four in the back of the net – including two more short-handed scores – in the second period, and the goals were sandwiched around Tom Durnie's first goal of the season.
Assisting on the senior defenseman's tally was the hot duo of Lasse Uusivirta and
Kyle Lysaght. The point was Lysaght's fourth in the past three games, while Uusivirta notched his third point in two nights.
The Mavericks added another power-play strike at 6:19 of the third to close out the scoring and to produce the 9-1 final.
UAH performed solidly in keeping the shot differential low Saturday night as it was outshot by a 33-22 margin.
The Chargers will return to action at Bemidji State on Friday, Dec. 16.
