HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Continuing the storied rivalry, the UAH hockey team is set to wrap-up play in Minnesota as it takes on Bemidji State this weekend for a pair of contests. The two teams will battle at 7:37 p.m. Friday before squaring off at 7:07 p.m. on Saturday.
The Chargers enter the weekend with a record of 1-17-1 while BSU owns a 7-9-2 mark.
A weekend ago the Blue and White dropped a pair at Minnesota State, falling 4-2 in the first contest before dropping a 9-1 decision the next night.
The Chargers were in the first game throughout the game as Lasse Uusivirta scored his first collegiate goal to make it 1-1 midway through the first after UAH had surrendered an early goal.
After the Mavericks regained the advantage at 2-1 late in the first and then pushed the lead out to 3-1 at 7:09 of the third, the Chargers responded just over a minute later as
Kyle Lysaght scored to make it 3-2, but the hosts scored on the empty net with 29 seconds remaining to ice the contest.
Lysaght – the team leader with nine points – has been hot of late as he has notched five points in UAH's last four games as he has scored three times and picked up a pair of helpers, and Uusivirta has been strong as well, recording the goal and three assists over the same span.
Mac Roy and
Justin Cseter have both notched three points in UAH's previous four.
Bemidji State split its last time out, dropping a 3-2 decision before winning 2-1 over No. 13 Denver.
A pair of players sit on top of the offensive ledger for this weekend's opponent as Jordan George and Brad Hunt both have recorded 15 points - George doing so by being the team-leader in goals with 11 while Hunt has turned in a team-best 12 assists on the season.
Dan Bakala has started 13 games in goal for the Beavers, posting a 4-6-1 record while notching a goals against average of 2.87 and a save percentage of .905.
The Beavers own the edge in the all-time series – a series that includes four national championship series when both teams skated at the Division II level – with a 36-28-4 record, and the series has been heavily tilted towards BSU of late.
However, UAH won the last meeting between the two teams as the Chargers grabbed a 4-3 victory last season in Huntsville.
