NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Playing the second of a pair at the home of the National Hockey League's Predators, the UAH hockey team fell Saturday to Nebraska Omaha by a 6-2 score at Bridgestone Arena. The Chargers fall to 1-15-1 with the loss while UNO improves to 8-7-3.
Trailing 4-0 after UNO had scored two goals in both the first and second periods, the Chargers answered back as
Kyle Lysaght scored at 15:52 of the second to register the fourth of his freshman campaign.
Nickolas Gatt and Justin Cster picked up the helpers on the play as UAH cut its deficit to three, and the assist marked the first point of Gatt's career.
Just under three minutes later, the Blue and White pulled to within two as
Tyler Kotlarz continued the trend of career-firsts for UAH on the weekend, scoring at 18:41 to send the game into the second intermission with the score 4-2.
Alex Allan picked up the primary assist on the play as he had fired a shot on Ryan Massa who left the rebound for Kotlarz to bury home, and
Michael Webley also assisted on the goal.
The five goals the Chargers scored this weekend mark their highest total in a series on the year.
For the Mavericks, both Matt White and Ryan Walters scored a pair of goals while Brent Gwidt and Alex Hudson added the other two strikes for UNO.
The Chargers were outshot by a 42-26 clip on the afternoon, and they were unable to convert on their three power-play chances – one of which was a lengthy 5-on-3 opportunity. Nebraska Omaha was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.
Returning to play next weekend, the Chargers will travel to Minnesota State-Mankato for a two-game set that begins Friday at 7:37 p.m.
