MANKATO, Minn. – The UAH hockey team opened a four-game swing through the State of Hockey on Friday night, falling 4-2 to Minnesota State. The Chargers fall to 1-16-1 while MSU improves to 5-12-1.
The hosts started the scoring with a quick goal as Eriah Hayes scored the first of three power-play goals the Mavericks would register on the night at the 2:30 mark of the opening period.
Picking up some offense from the blue line, the Chargers pulled even six minutes later as defenseman Lasse Uusivirta notched his first collegiate goal at 8:34.
Mac Roy and
Kyle Lysaght picked up assists on the play.
The Mavericks, however, went back on top late in the period as JP Lafontaine scored at 15:16.
The score remained 2-1 until the third period when the teams exchanged quick goals.
A power-play marker from MSU's Johnny McInnis put his squad up 3-1 at 7:09 of the final frame, but the same trio who combined for the first Charger goal joined forces again to pull UAH back within one just over a minute later at 8:21.
Lysaght notched his team-leading fifth goal, and with three points in two games, the freshman sits on top of the UAH offense with eight points now.
Uusivirta and Roy grabbed the assists on the score.
Minnesota State added an empty-net goal at 19:31 of the third to seal the contest.
The Chargers were outshot 39-21 on the night as
