#20 Saint Leo Defeats UAH 3-1

ST. LEO, Fla. - The UAH women's soccer team fell 3-1 on that road at No. 20 Saint Leo on Sunday despite a strong 11-save performance from Iris Gunnarsdottir. With the setback, the Lady Chargers fall to 2-6 on the season while SLU moves to 8-0.

The Lions outshot UAH by a 24-5 margin in the contest, and 14 of those shots were on target forcing the Reykjavik, Iceland native to register her season-high total in saves. Against West Alabama in UAH's last contest, Gunnarsdottir made seven stops.

Avoiding the shutout, Luting Sun scored off a free kick in the 84th minute for her team-best third tally of the season.

Sun had a chance to put UAH on top early, but she missed wide on UAH's only shot of the first half in the 11th minute. Just over four minutes later in minute 15, Ashley Acco scored for the hosts to produce a 1-0 lead in their favor, and the Lions added another score - a Stephanie Marran strike - late in the second half to make it 2-0 at the half.

Alicia Schuering found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to give Saint Leo a commanding 3-0 advantage.

UAH returns to conference play when it takes to the pitch against its second first-year opponent in Gulf South Conference action when Valdosta State travels to Huntsville for a 2 p.m. contest on Friday, Sept. 30.
