UAH Welcomes Valdosta State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH women's soccer team will look to string together Gulf South Conference wins when it hosts Valdosta State on Friday. Kick-off at Charger Field between the 2-6 Lady Chargers and 6-2 Lady Blazers is set for 2 p.m.

UAH fell its last time out, dropping a 3-1 decision to Saint Leo on the road. In that one, Luting Sun scored her team-leading third goal of the year, and she also sits on top of the team's ledger in points with six. One of those points was an assist on the game-winning goal in the Blue and White's first GSC game of the season – a 2-1 double-overtime victory at West Alabama.

Friday's opponent will have a ring of similarity to the Tigers as Valdosta State is also a first-year program.

The Lady Blazers are off to a strong start, posting the 6-2 mark including a 2-0 performance in GSC play as the squad defeated Christian Brothers 1-0 in overtime and knocked off Delta State 1-0 in regulation.

Rebecca Miller leads the way offensive with two goals and three assists for seven points while Blakely McClellan follows closely with six points on the strength of a trio of goals. Defender Arielle Sabrina has been strong and is the reigning GSC Defender of the Week.

Projected UAH starter Iris Gunnarsdottir – who has started all eight contests and registered 44 saves – will likely go up against Olivia Mills. The VSU keeper has played every minute of all eight games and has recorded 18 stops.

Live stats for the contest will be available at uahchargers.com, and fans are encouraged to follow the Lady Chargers on Twitter (@uahchargers).
