Hockey Falls 5-2 At Denver

DENVER – A day after picking up a huge upset victory, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team was unable to replicate the feat as it fell Saturday night to No. 10 Denver 5-2. The Chargers move to 2-22-1 on the season, and the hosts improved to 11-8-3 with the victory.

Despite being outshot 17-5 in the opening period, the Chargers found themselves in the same position they were in the night prior at the first intermission – trailing 2-1 after surrendering the first two goals of the game to Pioneers.

Denver scored twice in the first two minutes before Justin Cseter struck again at nearly the exact time that he did Friday night when he scored an unassisted goal at 16:27. He scored at 16:18 Friday and it was also an unassisted tally.

The score marked the third goal of the season for Cseter, and it put him in a tie with Kyle Lysaght and Mac Roy for the team lead in points as all have nine.

Unfortunately the second frame was unkind to the Blue and White even though they limited Denver to just nine shots in the period. Despite the low shot total, the Pioneers were able to score on three of the attempts to hold a commanding 5-1 lead after two.

Freshman Michael Webley pulled the Chargers back to within three with his first collegiate goal early in the third period, but that was as close as UAH would come. Doug Reid and Jeff Vanderlugt earned the assists on the strike that came at 2:02 of the stanza.

On the night, UAH was outshot 34-24 and was unsuccessful on its three opportunities with the man-advantage. Denver finished the contest going 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Chargers will be off next weekend, returning to action on Jan. 20 at Minnesota Duluth.
