Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A pair of second-half goals propelled the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team to victory on Friday afternoon as UAH defeated visiting Christian Brothers 2-1 at Charger Park. The victory moves the team to 7-8 (3-4 Gulf South Conference), while the Lady Bucs drop to 7-8 (3-4 GSC).
The first half of the contest was played under miserable conditions with a moderate rain falling throughout, but the rains let up after halftime and the Chargers fortunes turned with the weather also.
Just under three minutes into the second stanza,
Cady Reisman found herself with it at the top of the box with an open
Trisha Ehrhardt to her right. Reisman crossed it to her, and Ehrhardt booted it into the upper corner on the right side of the goal to put the Lady Chargers on top 1-0.
The strike marks the third score of the year for the senior.
Reisman would pick up another assist 11 minutes later in the 59th when she sent it forward to
Sydnie Fiocca who scored for the seventh time this season to produce a 2-0 advantage that the Blue and White would need.
Christian Brothers applied heavy pressure – especially in the closing minutes of the contest – and the visitors cut the UAH lead in half in the 85th when Jennifer Hale tallied an unassisted score.
Fortunately, UAH was able to thwart the Lady Buc attack in the waning moments, hanging on for the 2-1 victory.
With the late push, Christian Brothers outshot the Lady Chargers by a 13-10 margin, and
Iris Gunnarsdottir recorded five saves in picking up the win as CBU held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
Hoping to build off the home win, UAH will host Delta State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
