Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With time winding down in the first session of overtime, Khadjah Jannah scored her second goal of the game and sent the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park. The win improves the Lady Chargers to 8-8 (4-4 Gulf South conference), while Delta State slips to 3-10-1 (2-5 GSC).
The win is the third consecutive for the Blue and White.
In the 100th minute,
Danielle Schager fed a perfect ball forward to Jannah who raced towards goal and rocketed it into the back of the net to spark the second raucous overtime-victory celebration of the season for the Lady Chargers.
The score marked the second of the day for the junior from Atlanta.
Earlier in the contest with her team trailing 1-0, Nina Jetsu passed it to Jannah who scored on a breakaway in the 70th minute to tie the contest at 1-1 and ultimately force overtime.
Jannah had several other strong scoring chances on the day that were broken up by rough play by the Lady Statesmen in the box.
All of the scoring in the contest occurred after a scoreless first half as the visitors struck first with Payten Pearson scoring in the 51st minute.
For the contest, Delta State held a slim 10-9 advantage in shots including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal as
Iris Gunnarsdottir picked up the win while moving to 100 saves on the season. She now needs just 11 more to match the school-record total of 111 she set a season ago.
The squad will have the week off until travelling to nationally-ranked North Alabama on Saturday with kick-off slated for 7 p.m. in Florence.
