ST. CLOUD, Minn – The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team suffered an 8-3 loss at the hands of St. Cloud State on Friday night on the road.
The Chargers (2-2-1) scored three goals in the defeat, but surrendered eight to the host Huskies (1-2-0).
Alex Allan scored the first goal for UAH, that goal came in the second period at the six-minute mark and cut the St. Cloud State lead to 2-1.
Graeme Strukoff picked up the assist on the goal and would later add a goal of his own in the third period, which happened to be from Allan.
The two worked well together as Strukoff scored on a power play in the third that made the Huskie lead 6-3. St. Cloud State would add two more goals late to take the 8-3 victory.
Sophomore
Kyle Lysaght, who led the team in scoring a year ago, recorded the other UAH goal. That score came late in the second period and came off a double-assist by
Curtis deBruyn and
Justin Cseter.
UAH scored all three of their goals on the power play, finishing three for seven total in the game.
Although the Chargers were given seven penalties, they only surrendered one power play goal to St. Cloud State, allowing the WCHA-members to score seven even-strength goals.
St. Cloud State was led by Ethan Prow who recorded two goals and also added an assist.
John Griggs was credited with the loss for UAH, allowing six goals and finishing with 22 saves.
CJ Groh also saw action for the Chargers, allowing two goals and picking up eight saves.
The Chargers and Huskies will play again tomorrow night. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m.
