North Alabama Slips By Lady Chargers 4-2

Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. – In an exciting contest Saturday night, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team fell by a 4-2 score to host North Alabama in a game that easily could have ended in a different result. With the unlucky setback, the Lady Chargers slip to 8-9 (4-5 Gulf South Conference) while UNA improves to 10-4-1 (5-2-1 GSC).

Facing a 3-0 deficit after surrendering three first-half goals, the Blue and White showed great resiliency in the second half and almost immediately cut the UNA advantage to just two.

Just over three minutes into the period, Sydnie Fiocca found herself to the right of the UNA keeper, and she booted it by her into the left corner to make the score 3-1 as the freshman tallied her eighth score of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later, Fiocca and Khadijah Jannah slid past the UNA defense, and Fiocca fed it to Jannah who blasted it from 10 yards out to the back of the net for her team-best ninth goal of the year, cutting the Lion lead to just one at 3-2 in the process.

With momentum fully on the side of the visitors, the UAH bench erupted when it appeared that the Lady Chargers had earned the equalizer off a corner in the 76th minute, but the officials deemed the play to be offside and disallowed the goal.

UNA responded by scoring just 17 seconds later to take a 4-2 lead – essentially a two-goal swing that iced the contest for the Lions.

The first goal of the night was scored amid some controversy, also, as UAH was whistled for a handball inside the box that resulted in a penalty kick goal scored by Jennifer Osmond in the 27th minute. The Lions would add goals in the 38th and in the last minute before the half to build up the three-goal advantage.

Corners were even in the contest at 4-4, while UNA held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal as Iris Gunnarsdottir made several strong saves in totaling six on the night.

UAH will now return home to wrap up the regular season slate as it hosts Union at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.
