Records Tied As UAH Defeats Union 1-0 At Home

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On a record-tying day, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team defeated visiting Union by a 1-0 score on Friday afternoon at Charger Park to wrap up the regular season. UAH finishes at an even .500 with a record of 9-9, while the Lady Bulldogs drop to 7-8-2.

The Lady Chargers will now turn their attention to the Gulf South Conference Tournament that begins Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 36th minute as Khadijah Jannah served a perfect ball from the left side to Sydnie Fiocca who was alone in front, and the freshman was able to boot it into the back of the net to produce the 1-0 advantage that would stand through the rest of the contest.

The strike marks the ninth of the year for Fiocca, and it also is her GSC-best sixth game-winning score of the season. Her 20 points ranks second on the squad to Jannah who moved up to 21 with the helper.

One of four records that were tied in the contest, Fiocca matches Devin Newman for the most game-winning goals in a season in program history.

Posting a record-tying fourth clean sheet, Iris Gunnarsdottir made five stops in the contest to also match the single-season saves record of 111 which she set a season ago. Registering four shutouts in a single season has been done twice as Laura Jackson did it in 1999 and Sarah Sollie matched the number in 2004.

The other record that was tied on the day was the career mark for starts as Cady Reisman started her 66th game in the Blue and White to match the mark set by Susan Bogenshutz.

Corners in the contest were even at 3-3, while the Lady Bulldogs fired off nine shots compared to UAH's five on the day.

The complete seeding for the GSC Tournament will be released by the conference office early next week, and updates will be posted to uahchargers.com.
