Chargers' Strong Effort Comes Up Short at AIC

BOX SCORE
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –
The Chargers came up just short on the road Saturday night, falling to American International 4-3 at the Olympia Ice Center.

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (2-5-1) hockey team played one of their strongest performances of the season and were left with a power play opportunity with less than a minute to play against AIC (2-3), but couldn't find the game-tying goal and lost their fourth straight game.

UAH gave themselves a chance to win the game late, something they have not done since their 2-2 tie with Minnesota State.

American International got on the board first at 3:17 in the first period and would hold that 1-0 lead after the first period.

Doug Reid scored at the four-minute mark in the second period to put UAH at the 1-1 tie, when he was assisted by Mat Hagen on his second goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets would respond just over a minute later at the 5:08 point to give the lead back to the hosts at 2-1.

The Chargers responded once again, this time Jack Prince did the scoring at 10:34 in the second period. It wasPrince's fourth goal of the season and the assist was credited to Michael Webley and Jeff Vanderlugt.

Adam Pleskach of AIC would find the back of the net twice in a span of two minutes late in the second period and would give his team the 4-2 lead after two periods.

With UAH on the attack the entire third period, Webley finally capitalized for the Chargers with a goal at 15:00. Prince and Graeme Strukoff recorded the double-assist, but it would be the final score in the game and UAH would come up just short.

AIC held the shot advantage at 33-25, but for the second straight night UAH held strong staying out of the penalty box. UAH finished with just three penalties on the night compared to AIC's four.

John Griggs recorded 29 saves in the losing effort, but gave his team a chance shutting down the Yellow Jackets in the third period.

The Chargers have a strong performance to build on as they travel back to the Northeast next weekend, this time visiting St. Lawrence in Canton, New York. Both Friday and Saturday's games scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time.
