HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After stepping out of conference play its last time out, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team will look to continue its strong performance on the road as it ventures to Valdosta State and West Georgia this weekend. UAH will square off against VSU at 6 p.m. CDT on Friday, and Sunday's contest in Carrollton, Ga., will begin at noon CDT.
The Lady Chargers go into the pair of matches with a 5-7 (1-3 Gulf South Conference) record, but the team is an impressive 4-1 away from Huntsville having not lost a road game since dropping a 2-1 decision at Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 1.
The team continues to be led by
Sydnie Fiocca's 13 points that she has amassed on the strength of six goals and an assist, and
Khadijah Jannah remains second on the team with four goals and a pair of helpers for 10 points.
Though the freshman has not tallied in the team's last three games, Fiocca remains in fifth in the conference in goals.
Sitting at 8-1-1 (2-1-1 GSC), Valdosta State has continued its success from last year in this season – just its second of existence. The Blazers are riding a four-game unbeaten streak, and Rebecca Miller's four goals and four assists lead the squad. The VSU attack is balanced, however, as six players have all scored a pair of goals on the year.
Last year in the only matchup between the two programs, VSU was a 2-0 winner in the Rocket City.
West Georgia features a 2-4-3 (2-0-2 GSC) mark, but the Wolves have not won in five games as they have gone 0-2-3 during the span. Both Mariela Ortega and Amalia Hernandez have scored three goals on the year to pace UWG, and Ortega has added an assist to own a team-best seven points.
Live stats will be available for both contests.
