HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Lake Superior State is next up on the schedule for the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team, as they travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., for a pair of games this weekend.
In search of their first win, the Chargers (0-9-1) will play their ninth and tenth consecutive road games on Friday (6:35 p.m.) and Saturday (6:05 p.m.).
UAH comes into the weekend following a pair of losses at Northeastern. The Chargers fell 3-1 on Sunday and held a 1-0 lead after the first period in Boston, Mass. They couldn't hold off the Huskies who scored two goals in the second period and one more in the third to secure the win.
The Chargers are averaging just 1.2 goals per game, while they are allowing 4.4 to their opponents. They have also had to rack up 357 saves on the season, as they have surrendered 401 shots on goal in just 10 games, a staggering number. Both
John Griggs and
Gregg Gruehl have done more than their part, but the defense has to cut that number down if UAH is going to see their first W.
Graeme Strukoff has provided a good spark this season, leading the team with five points coming off four assists and a goal scored.
Jeff Vanderlugt,
Kyle Lysaght and
Craig Pierce each have tallied two goals for the blue and white this season.
For Lake Superior State, they come into this weekend an even 5-5 on the season. They have split each of their first five series' this year, most recently against Ferris State at home last weekend.
The Lakers are averaging 2.5 goals per game this season, and are about as even offensively as they are defensively this season.
Nick McParland has done the damage so far this season for the Lakers, as he leads the team with eight points on three goals scored and five assists.
