SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – After picking up their first win of the 2012-13 season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-0 to Lake Superior State in the second game of the weekend series on Saturday night.
UAH (1-10-1) struggled throughout the contest, as the host Lakers (6-6) scored three goals in the first period to take a commanding 3-0 lead after the first period.
At just 24 seconds into the game, Lake Superior State had already jumped out to a 1-0 lead, when Ben Power put his team on top. Chris Ciotti and Stephen Perfetto added two more in the period for the Lakers.
The two teams would play a scoreless second period, but then the Lakers added the fourth goal of the game at 12:23 in the third period. It was Ciotti's second goal of the night.
The Chargers were outshot 50-25, as
Gregg Gruehl got the start in goal and picked up 13 saves but allowed the three goals.
John Griggs played the final two periods, allowing one goal and picking up 33 saves.
UAH continues their road trip this next weekend when they travel to Nebraska Omaha for a weekend series on Friday, November 23, and Saturday, November 24. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
