Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Jordan Smith became just the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career, but the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell by an 85-46 score to host Nova Southeastern on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Chargers dip to 3-2 on the season, and NSU improves to a perfect 5-0.
The Hoover, Ala., native joined teammate
Jasmine Hammon in the 1,000-point club when Smith scored her second basket of the game at the 14:12 mark of the opening period. The junior finished the contest with six points.
It is the first time in program history that a team has had two 1,000-point scorers.
Smith was fouled on the play that allowed her to reach the milestone, and she tacked on a free throw to produce a 13-7 advantage for the visitors. The lead, however, would be the largest that UAH would enjoy in the contest as the Sharks dominated the rest of the period en route to holding a 45-27 at the halftime break.
UAH was unable to make many shots fall in the second half, hitting just 17.1 percent from the field in the period as Nova outscored the Blue and White by a 40-19 clip to pick up the victory.
Jasmine Hammon was the only UAH player to score in double figures in the contest as she picked up 10, and
Natalie Kelley and
Halle Jarnagin both grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team on the glass.
Leading a group of four Sharks who tallied in double figures was Amanda Burakoski who scored 20.
The Sharks shot a blistering 46.9 percent from beyond the arc and connected on 44.3 percent of their overall shots while limiting the Lady Chargers to a shooting percentage of just 26.6 percent for the game.
The team will be off until Nov. 29 when it opens up Gulf South Conference play against West Georgia at 5:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
