HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Boston, Mass., will be the next stop for the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team, as they travel to take on Northeastern University on Saturday and Sunday.
Playing their seventh and eighth consecutive road games, the Chargers (0-7-1) will be looking to get in the win column when they battle the Huskies (2-4-1) of the Hockey East. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
UAH was swept by St. Lawrence last weekend, but played one of their stronger games of the season in Saturday's loss.
Northeastern has lost four of their last five, including a scoreless tie to New Hampshire. The Huskies last win came against the No. 1 team in the country, Boston College. They knocked off the Eagles at home 3-1 on October 13.
THE GOOD
UAH has received strong performances from young talent so far this season. Sophomore
Graeme Strukoff leads the team in points (5) and assists (4).
Doug Reid, another sophomore, is tied for second in points with three with freshman
Jack Prince. Even defenseman and sophomore
Jeff Vanderlugt has three points. The youth of the Chargers looks strong and promising, and they're contributing now.
Freshman goaltender Gregg Greuhl has earned the respect of coach Kleinendorst, as he has received some time between the pipes against good competition. The young and upcoming talent can be found all over the ice for the Chargers, and Kleinendorst has them moving in the right direction.
THE BAD
The Chargers are still fighting for their first win in 2012-13. The competition has been tough and the lone positive result has been a 2-2 tie with Minnesota State in which UAH held a lead with five minutes to play. The schedule stays strong, but UAH is bound to breakthrough if they continue to play hard each night.
THE UGLY
The Blue and White defense has struggled early and often this season. They are surrendering almost five goals a game. They have given up seven power play goals and have racked up 275 saves in just eight games, a staggering number. The defense has to help those in goal, because it is awfully hard to win allowing five goals a game.
Fans are encouraged to follow the Chargers on Facebook (facebook.com/uahchargers) and on Twitter (@uahchargers), and supporters of the Blue and White may sign up for text and e-mail updates at uahchargers.com.
The two games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time on Saturday and Sunday at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass.
