BOX SCORE
MADISON, Wis. – Despite one of their stronger efforts of the season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-1 to Wisconsin on Friday night at the Kohl Center.
UAH (3-14-1) played arguably their best team effort of 2012-13 and were only outshot 30-22 by the Badgers (4-7-5) after being outshot 37-9 last night.
Those nine shots on goal were the fewest allowed in Wisconsin team history, but the Chargers weren't going to go as quietly in the second game of the back-to-back. UAH responded on Friday with a solid performance to build on for the future, despite allowing four goals.
Michael Webley was the first player to find the back of the net, as the sophomore tallied his third goal of the season at 18:53 in the first period.
Steven Koshey and
Frank Misuraca were credited with the assist on the power play goal. UAH had a two-man advantage after two Wisconsin players were sent to the box for elbowing.
Wisconsin came out strong in the second period and would essentially put the game away with two goals in that period. Both goals came at even strength, and the Badgers would take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period was dominated by the home team, as they scored two more goals and held a 11-4 advantage on shots.
UAH came into the series with a 3-4-1 record in their last eight games and after being outplayed in every aspect of the game on Thursday, responded with a valiant effort on Friday. The game was physical and chippy on both sides, as there were a total of 12 penalties in the game. Wisconsin was tagged with eight, while UAH finished with just four.
Blake Geoffrion, the older brother of
Brice Geoffrion and
Sebastian Geoffrion, as well as a former Badger, served as honorary captain for the game as well.
The Chargers return to the ice on Dec. 29 and 30 when they participate in the 2012 Mariucci Classic in Minneapolis, Minn., hosted by the University of Minnesota. UAH will play the current No. 1-ranked team in the country in Boston College on Saturday (Dec. 29) and Air Force on Sunday (Dec. 30). Both games will start at 4 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
