UAH Aims For Best Home Start In Program History

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team (15-3, 6-1 GSC) will host West Alabama (6-12, 1-6 GSC) on Thursday as the Lady Chargers aim to extend their undefeated record of 9-0 at home this year. Tipoff at Spragins Hall is slated for 5:30 p.m. CST.

For the second time this season, UAH is being recognized in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll as the Lady Chargers are receiving votes in the poll. UAH, still atop the Gulf South Conference standings, is joined by fellow GSC-leader Delta State who is also receiving votes.

With a victory in Thursday's contest, UAH will extend its home winning streak to 10 games, keeping the squad undefeated at home this year at home and marking the best home start to a season in program history. In addition, the Lady Chargers will have accumulated the most wins in a single season since the 2002-03 season when the squad finished 17-10.

In its last outing, UAH defeated GSC-rival North Alabama, 60-44, on Jan. 28 on the road. That win snapped a six-year and six-game losing streak to UNA in Florence, Ala. The Lady Chargers had three players score in double digits, led by sophomore Jordan Smith who poured in a game-high 14 points. UAH held UNA to just 16.7 percent (4-of-24) shooting from the field in the first half as well, which was a season-low for the Lady Lions.
UWA enters the contest on a five-game losing streak, including losing its last two games by a combined five points to West Florida, 62-59, and West Georgia, 37-35. The Tigers, who are in search of their first GSC win on the road this season (0-3), are paced by Brittany Weathers who is averaging a near double-double with 13.1 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Historically, UWA leads the all-time series 29-19, but UAH has taken two of the previous three meetings. In the last meeting between the two schools earlier this season, UAH claimed a 63-55 decision in Livingston, Ala. With a win on Thursday, it will give UAH its first sweep of the season series since the 2005-06 season.
