Charger Hockey Falls 5-0 At Maine

ORONO, Maine – A night after nearly pulling off the upset victory, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 5-0 to host No. 15 Maine on Saturday night. The Chargers fall to 2-26-1 while the Black Bears improve to 16-8-3.

In the setback, goalie Clarke Saunders registered his 17th 30-save performance, and the showing also marked the fourth straight contest in which he stopped at least 30.

The Black Bears struck first as Mark Antoine scored on the power play just 3:18 into the game, and Brice O'Connor followed that up just under three minutes later at 6:05 of the first to push the Maine advantage out to 2-0.

Another power-play marker – this time from Brett Flynn – just into the second stanza at :26 of the period made it 3-0, and the hosts were able to strike again with the man-advantage as Matt Mangene scored at 4:19 to put Maine up 4-0.

Spencer Abbott rounded out the scoring with a tally at 11:19 of the third.

On the night, the Chargers were outshot by a 35-20 margin and were unable to capitalize on their five power-play opportunities, and Maine finished the night 3-for-6 with on the power play.

UAH's top scoring line of Kyle Lysaght, Justin Cseter and Mac Roy were held in check on the evening, finishing with just a combined five shots.

The Chargers will wrap up regular season play next weekend when it travels to Miami for a two-game set, and UAH will then return home to face the U.S. Under 18 squad at the end of the month.
