Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team fell on Thursday, dropping a 3-0 decision to North Georgia in the team's season debut at the new Charger Park. North Georgia improves to 1-0 on the young season while the Lady Chargers start out at 0-1.
The contest was tight through much of the first half with neither team generating much in the way of scoring chances for long periods of time.
One of the top opportunities in the period came with 12 minutes left in the half when North Georgia's Kayla Croom found herself with plenty of open space down the right side, but as she raced towards goal,
Ali Mauldin showed great hustle to catch up to her and thwart the chance.
Unfortunately, the visitors were able to get on the scoreboard in the opening half as they scored just into the 45th minute when Melanie Thompson was able to move past UAH keeper
Iris Gunnarsdottir and fire it home to make the contest 1-0 in favor of the Saints at the break.
Just over seven minutes into the second half, North Georgia struck again to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, and the Saints added another tally in the 62nd to take a commanding 3-0 advantage.
The Saints peppered the UAH goal in the second half as Gunnarsdottir made eight of her 11 saves in the final 45 minutes.
The 11 stops match the career high that the Reykjavik, Iceland, native recorded in the Clayton State contest a season ago.
UAH will look to rebound on Saturday as the team travels to Lincoln Memorial for a noon kick-off in Harrogate, Tenn.
