Lady Chargers Fall In Tight Contest At LMU

Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. – In the first road contest of the 2012 season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team dropped a slim 2-1 decision to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. With the setback, the Lady Chargers fall to 0-2 on the season, and LMU improves to 1-0.

The Blue and White showed strong improvement from the season opener, firing six shots on the Lady Railsplitter goal including three in rapid succession that led to an equalizing goal.

After falling behind 1-0 after Savannah Pitt scored in the 23rd minute, the Lady Chargers leveled things in the 29th when Trisha Ehrhardt found herself in close on the left side. Her first attempt was saved by the LMU keeper, but the senior was persistent and after an LMU defender blocked her second attempt, Ehrhardt was rewarded as her third try found the back of the net.

The score remained even at 1-1 at the halftime break as Iris Gunnarsdottir made two of her five saves in the final minutes of the first stanza.

Despite being outshot 10-3 in the second half, the Lady Chargers appeared to be headed towards overtime but the hosts unfortunately had other idea, striking in the 86th minute as Pitt notched her second goal of the contest.

Lincoln Memorial fired 18 shots towards Gunnarsdottir but only seven were on frame, making for a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Lady Chargers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 7, as they host in-city foe Alabama A&M at 4:30 p.m.
