Fiocca's Pair Leads UAH To Third Straight Win

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team scored early and often in the first half Sunday, using a 3-1 performance over host Delta State to run their season-long winning streak to three games. UAH improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Lady Statesmen drop to 2-3.

The Lady Chargers wasted no time in taking a firm grasp on the contest with a little help from a fortuitous bounce.

Gaining control shortly after the opening whistle, Emily Hancock fed a nice ball to Sydnie Fiocca who attempted to cross it in front of the keeper, but the ball curved towards the goal and clanked off the far post and into the net just 20 seconds into the contest. The goal was the fourth of the season for Fiocca while Hancock earned her team-best third assist of the year.

The squad had numerous chances as the Blue and White controlled play throughout the period, and the team was rewarded again in the 17th minute when Fiocca headed one in off a pass from Trisha Ehrhardt.

The goal completely stymied a brief spurt of DSU momentum as the hosts had hit the crossbar less than a minute before Fiocca's second score of the contest.

With the two scores, Fiocca regains the team lead in goals with five on the year.

Giving the Lady Chargers a commanding lead, Niina Jetsu tallied her first collegiate point when she earned an assist on Cady Reisman's tally – her first of the season – in the 28th minute, and the score would remain 3-0 going into the halftime break.

The second half was not as heavily tilted towards the visitors as the first 45 minutes, and the Lady Statesmen scored in the 55th minute to create the 3-1 final.

On the day, UAH owned a 22-17 advantage in shots, while shots that reached the target were even at 7-7.

The Lady Chargers will look to continue their winning ways when they host Shorter on Thursday, Sept. 20, when they host Shorter at Charger Park with kick-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
