Lady Chargers Return Home To Face Shorter

LIVE STATS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Looking to extend its current hot streak, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team will open up the conference portion of the 2012 slate on Thursday when the Lady Chargers welcome Shorter to the pitch at Charger Park for a 2 p.m. kick-off. UAH enters the game at 4-3 (0-0 Gulf South Conference), while the Lady Hawks enter at 1-5 (0-2 GSC).

The contest counts in the GSC standings, but Shorter is not yet eligible for postseason play as the program continues working towards full GSC membership.

The Lady Chargers find themselves ranked among the best in the NCAA South Region according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, placing eighth in the latest edition of the group's regional poll. UAH has won three games in a row to move above .500, and should the Lady Chargers win on Thursday it will mark the first four-game unbeaten streak since 2008 and the first four-game winning streak since the 2007.

Sydnie Fiocca has been key during the stretch, scoring three times – including a pair of game-winners – to run her season total to five goals. The five scores are tops on the team as are her 11 points.

The Lady Hawks are currently going in the other direction as Shorter has lost its last three contests with their last victory a 3-2 triumph in double overtime at West Alabama. Since then the squad has lost 5-1 to both Columbus State and Delta State while also falling 3-2 in overtime at Christian Brothers.

Brandi Greenwald leads Shorter in scoring with two goals and an assist for five points, and the goalkeeping duties have been split between Taylor Hays (2.15 goals against average) and Katie Stachula (4.20 goals against average).

The all-time series between the two programs is brief with both teams recording a win.
