UAH Bounces Back With 2-0 Win At Union

Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – Running its road winning streak to four games, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team defeated host Union 2-0 on Monday night. The Lady Chargers improve to 5-4 (1-1 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, and Union drops to 2-3-2 (0-2-2 GSC).

Scoring within the first three minutes of a game for the third time this season, the squad jumped ahead quickly after Khadijah Jannah played the ball along the end line and crossed it to Sydnie Fiocca who put it in for her team-best sixth goal of the season.

The Lady Chargers added onto the lead in the 33rd minute after Union had a free kick attempt go straight into the UAH wall. The ball caromed to the feet of Summer Carter, and she quickly got it forward to Cady Reisman who beat a Union defender and raced more than 40 yards, scooting past Union keeper Emily Waggoner and depositing the ball in the back of the net for her second strike of the season.

Holding the 2-0 lead after the halftime break, the Blue and White was forced to withstand a strong attack by the Lady Bulldogs in the first 15 minutes of the second period, and Iris Gunnarsdottir made three of her seven stops – including one quite impressive one – in that stretch to help preserve the victory.

The clean sheet is the third of the season for the league's leader in saves.

The Lady Chargers were outshot 13-8, but shots on goal were even at 7-7. UAH held a 4-2 advantage in corners.

UAH will return to action on Friday when they face a stiff test in the form of No. 4 West Florida at Charger Park at 1 p.m.
