Lady Chargers Upended By No. 2 West Florida

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Falling to the nation's second-ranked team, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to West Florida on Friday afternoon at Charger Park. The loss moves the Lady Chargers to 5-5 (1-2 Gulf South Conference) and West Florida improves to 9-0 (5-0 GSC).
 
The Argos struck first in the second minute as they scored off a header from a corner kick, and the visitors added to their lead in the 22nd to carry a 2-0 lead to halftime.
 
En route to building a 26-9 advantage in shots, West Florida fired 12 shots toward Iris Gunnarsdottir and she turned away eight of them, but UWF was able to score in the 64th minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
 
Cutting into the lead, Khadijah Jannah fired on goal that the UWF keeper deflected, but it went right to Cady Reisman who scored her third goal of the season to make it 3-1 in the 69th minute. Reisman now has eight points on the season to rank third on the squad, two points behind Jannah who owns 10 with the assist.
 
Unfortunately, West Florida sealed the contest with a goal in the 80th to generate the 4-1 final.
 
 The Lady Chargers will return to action on Sunday as they host West Alabama at 2 p.m. at the friendly confines of Charger Park.
