HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Returning home to the Von Braun Center, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team will host Adrian on Friday and Vanderbilt on Saturday this weekend.
UAH (3-16-1) is happy to start the 2013 calendar at home, after playing 12 of their 16 countable games away from Huntsville so far this season. Including a sweep over Finlandia, the Chargers are 2-1-1 at home this season.
The Chargers fell to top-ranked Boston College and unranked Air Force over the weekend in Minneapolis, Minn., as part of the 2012 Mariucci Classic. UAH fell behind 3-0 in both games and was unable to dig out of the early hole they put themselves in.
Sophomore
Jeff Vanderlugt has been on a tear lately, scoring a goal in each game over the weekend and five goals total in his last six games. Vanderlugt has appeared in all 20 games this season and leads the Chargers with seven goals scored and nine points.
With two winnable games on the horizon, the Chargers will look to end their recent skid and start the New Year on the right foot. Only Friday's game will count towards their 2012-13 record, as Vanderbilt is a club team and will be scored as an exhibition.
The Adrian College Bulldogs (10-1) visit the VBC on Friday night for a 7 p.m. start, having just one loss to their name in 2012-13. The Bulldogs compete in the MCHA and are the second NCAA Division III team that UAH will face this season.
Averaging 5.8 goals per game, Adrian has scored at least four goals in every game this season. They have five players in the top six of the MCHA in points per game and suffered their only defeat last weekend at home against Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Saturday night, Vanderbilt will make the short trip down from Nashville, Tenn., for a matchup with their only non-club team on the schedule this season. Vandy comes in with a 4-7 club record, including a loss to Alabama on Oct. 21, 2012. UAH defeated Alabama twice this season by a combined 22-1 score.
Both games will start at 7 p.m. at the Von Braun Center.
Friday's game against Adrian will also be senior night for the four UAH seniors.
Sebastian Geoffrion,
Curtis deBruyn,
Justin Cseter and
John Griggs will be honored for their careers in a Charger uniform.
