Adrian Knocks Off Chargers on Senior Night, 4-2

BOX SCORE
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.
– Senior night was spoiled on Friday evening, as the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 4-2 to Adrian at the Von Braun Center.

UAH (3-17-1) had an answer for the first two Adrian (11-1) goals, but had no response for a third as the Chargers dropped their fifth straight game.

Adrian came into Friday's game as the seventh-ranked team in NCAA Division III and did not disappoint. The Bulldogs were averaging an NCAA-best 5.8 goals per game and nearly matched that average yet again against the Division I Chargers.

After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs opened the scoring at 9:19 on a power play goal to take a 1-0 lead over the hosts. Scoring his first goal of the season, Sebastian Geoffrion found the back of the net at 11:49 to tie the game at 1-1. The senior finished beautifully on an unassisted goal and gave the Chargers a quick response midway through the second period.

Just a minute later, Adrian would go back in front at 2-1, but again UAH had a response as freshman Chad Brears recorded his first collegiate goal to knot the score at 2-2.

After both teams exchanged some unfriendly pushes and shoves, Lukas Ciotti gave Adrian a lead they would not relinquish this time. Ciotti's goal at 18:29 gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead after the second period, in which five total goals were scored in all.

The Chargers would have some good looks on goal in the third period, but came up empty handed. Adrian would a score with just 10 seconds remaining in the game as John Griggs was pulled from a goal in an attempt to score and tie the game late.

Griggs finished with 19 saves but drops his record to 2-13-1 on the season.

A total of 12 penalties were handed out in the game as the two teams were jawing and fighting all evening. UAH was 0-for-3 in the power play attempts while Adrian finished perfect at 2-for-2.

The Chargers will return home again tomorrow night when they play host to Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. at the Von Braun Center.
