Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A goal in the 61st minute by Lydia Sutcliffe was the only score in the contest as the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team fell to visiting West Alabama by a 1-0 score at Charger Park on Friday night. The loss drops UAH to 3-7-4 (1-5-1 GSC), while West Alabama improves to 9-4-0 (4-2-0).
The Lady Chargers registered several strong chances – especially early in the contest and then again late.
In a six-minute span early on, UAH fired four shots including three that were on goal as
Sydnie Fiocca,
Niina Jetsu and
Melody Dodd each had strong tries from the 13th minute to the 19th minute, and the three that were on goal would help both teams be even at 4-4 in shots on goal at the half.
The Tigers would end the game with a slim 7-6 advantage in shots that reached the target with the Sutcliffe strike in the 61st minute being the difference maker.
UAH ended the contest as it had started the affair, applying great pressure.
Alex Petermann had a strong try go just wide in the 82nd minute, and Dodd and
Klaire Phillips both had shots that were stopped by the West Alabama keeper in the 84th.
Iris Gunnarsdottir recorded six saves in the contest, and UWA's Issy Foster matched her with six stops of her own.
The Lady Chargers will return to action on Sunday when sixth-ranked West Florida visits Charger Park at 1 p.m.
