Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Ferris State on Friday night at the VBC, sending its record to 0-5-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in the WCHA.
Ferris State (4-2-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) outshot UAH 37-21, scored four goals in the first period and earned their first-ever victory in the WCHA. The Bulldogs saw goals scored from five different players on the night.
Dom Panetta put Ferris State on the board just 1:40 into the game, when he smacked one past
Carmine Guerriero (0-3-0) form a perfect stick pass from Kyle Schempp. Garrett Thompson gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead 12 minutes later at 13:41 on the power play, after he was in the right place at the right time on the rebound.
After a Kenny Babinski goal at 17:47 to put Ferris State up 3-0, Schempp got his stick on a fired shot from Jason Binkley to redirect it past Guerriero. Scott Czarnowczan made the score 5-0 with the lone goal in the second period off another power play.
Ferris State finished 3 for 5 on the power play, while the Chargers went just 0 for 2.
CJ Motte picked up the win in goal for FSU, saving 21 shots on the night.
The two teams will do battle again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. back at the Von Braun Center. The first 500 fans will receive a free UAH Hockey puck courtesy of SportsMed.
