Chargers Give Up Early Goals in 3-0 Loss at NMU

Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision on Friday night to Northern Michigan at the Berry Events Center in WCHA action.

UAH (0-11-0, 0-7-0 WCHA) fell behind early on a pair of NMU (5-5-1, 3-2-0 WCHA) goals and could never recover. The Chargers will have to wait another night before they catch their first WCHA win of the season.

The Wildcats scored at 4:03 of the first period after Matt Larose made a nice glove-side save, but Dominik Shine was there to put it home for NMU, scoring his first goal of the season. Larose was facing multiple shots leading up to the goal that seemed inevitable early on.

Just over seven minutes later at 11:31 of the first period Northern Michigan would go up 2-0 after Reed Seckel lit the lamp for his third goal of the season. Much like the first goal, Larose was being attacked from both circles and another rebound was left for NMU to convert.

After a slow start to the first half of the second period, NMU added their third thanks to a slap shot from Sami Salminen that flew past Larose's glove. The Chargers turned it over and NMU converted with a perfect cross-slot pass from Cohen Adair.

The two teams would skate fairly even in the third period as neither team would score a goal.

UAH had a few good looks on goal, but Mathias Dahlstrom made a couple of nice saves to pick up the clean sheet victory. The Chargers finished 0-for-4 on the power play.

Larose (0-6-0) picked up the loss, but recorded 38saves in the game.

The two teams will do battle again tomorrow night as UAH will look to earn the split and their first victory of the season. The Chargers have lost four one-goal decisions playing on Saturdays this season.
